In Wednesday’s reading from gospel from John, chapter 8, we hear the famous line, “the truth will set you free.” Jesus doesn’t claim to be a way, or a truth, or a life, but THE way, THE truth and THE life.” The fullness of truth is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, and is a free gift to all. And living in THE truth leads to true freedom, in so much as we actively choose to live in the word of truth each day and each moment. Listen to Jesus speaking to the Jews who had believed in him,
"If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." They answered him, "We are descendants of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one. How is it that you say, `You will be made free'?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
Let’s pray – Father of Grace and Mercy – You love us so relentlessly that you thirst to set us free from the slavery of sin. Help us to accept your word as truth, so we would repent and turn into the arms of your love and mercy. Give us the grace to know that your truth truly sets us free. Amen.
