We humans are funny creatures.
We will complain when we don’t get enough information, and then when we do, we complain that it’s too much or too hard. God gave us plenty of clues of his existence, then revealed more through the prophets and his son, Jesus Christ.
And Jesus taught us THE way, THE truth, and THE life. He has given us the road map to joy and happiness, and yet how often do we toss it aside to chart our own course, often down a very destructive path?
Listen to Saint John’s reading from August 26th, contemplating how fragile our faith often is:
“Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the ones who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason, I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” As a result of this, many of the disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
Let’s pray – Father of Grace and Mercy. You teach us the path of joy and love through the Holy Spirit. Renew in our hearts the fire of your love. Give us the grace to correct course when we get off your path, trusting your infinite heart of mercy. Help us to trust that you have the words of eternal life. Amen
