Have you ever seen the man in the moon? Many of us have spent time gazing upon the moon. We marvel at brightly it shines in the night sky, and how there almost seems to be a face smiling down on us.
Now think back to when you discovered that the moon wasn’t providing the light, but merely reflected the light of the sun. Didn’t that make you appreciate the sun all the more?
As we listen to July 29th’s reading from Saint Paul to the Ephesians, listen not only to the prose of this great saint, but also how well he reflected the light of Jesus.
“Brothers and sisters: I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worth of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace: one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
Let’s pray. Father of Grace and Mercy. You are the loving creator of all – the sun, the moon, and the stars. You call us to love one another as you have loved us – being light in the darkness. As we ponder the depths of these summer nights, may the moon inspire us to reflect the light of your love onto the world. Amen.
